Welcome to ACWW’s very own column!

News

I am delighted to announce that the Federation’s additional project for our 2 year ACWW fundraising appeal will be ‘Traditional Birth Attendants’ Training in the Volta Region of Ghana. The training is described as follows:

The objective is to train 40 traditional birth assistants in pre and postnatal care as well as sexual and reproductive health during an 8 day workshop. The topics of the workshop are according to the National Ministry of Health in Ghana. After the successful completion of the workshop, the participants will receive a Traditional Birth Attendants health kit, including medical devices. The new 40 participants to the programme along with 20 previous participants will also take part in a 5 day workshop on the prevention of malaria and diarrhoea in children under 5 years of age. After the successful completion of the workshop, the participants will receive 10 mosquito nets each and life saving Oral Rehydration Salts for children.

I hope you agree that this is a most worthwhile project; it also falls within the theme of ‘Maternal and child health’ which our National Chairman, Ruth Bond, called upon us to support, last year.

The Federation is asking WIs to raise a total of £1,250.00 towards the cost of this project, in order to complete our 2 year ACWW Projects’ Appeal (Oct. 2010/Oct2012). It would be greatly appreciated if funds raised for the Project could be forwarded to WI House as soon as your WI has completed fundraising.

I'm always very pleased to talk to WIs about ACWW in general, and to explain more about the ACWW Projects we support.

Finally, a huge ‘ Thank you’ to all WIs that sent in their ‘Pennies for Friendship’ during the last few months of 2011. In December, we were able to send cheques totalling around £2,200.00 to ACWW.
A WONDERFUL RESULT!

What's On

WOMEN WALK THE WORLD FOR ACWW

Women Walk the World for ACWW’ - 29th April, 2012. An initiative to raise awareness of, and funds for, ACWW. Like many charities in these days of financial uncertainty, ACWW is in need of a helping hand to support their day to day running costs. I hope to bring you more information about ‘Women Walk the World’ in a future edition of Worcs. WI News. Any funds raised by WI members for this initiative would have to be done on a personal basis, as WI funds can only be used to support ACWW Projects.
