Creative Activities

We organise day courses and demonstrations in all aspects of Cookery, Flower Arranging and a wide variety of Craft. WI Certificate courses are arranged for those members who wish to further their skills. A Home Economics and Craft Rally is held every year. Day schools on Drawing, Painting, Calligraphy etc are usually scheduled between October and April. During the summer, Painting Days are arranged at interesting places. Outings to Art Exhibitions, Art and Art History Lectures etc. are all arranged at different times.

ANNUAL CREATIVE ACTIVITIES COMPETITION

You will have received your schedule for this year’s competitions; the theme is “Best of British”. This will be taking place at the Annual Council Meeting, Three Counties Showground, Malvern on 31 October 2012.Should you wish to have any further copies then they are available to download here. Maybe these long winter nights will enable you to think of and produce your craft entry. Get together now and thrash out your ideas. No need to be bored!!!

What's Coming Up

PATCHWORK WORKSHOPS

Firstly I apologise for advertising the incorrect date last month for ‘Stars in Patchwork’, with tutor Sue Longhurst. This will take place on Saturday 24th March at W I House. It is not too late to book a place subject to availability. Cost £15 per member, £17 non-members to include a light lunch. For further details contact: Alison Cooke on 01584 881473.

BEST OF BRITISH LUNCH
Keep the date in your diary, ‘Best of British Lunch’ on May 17th at Astley Village Hall. The speaker is Amanda Pickard who has spoken on national television and radio about her life and her passion for all things from the 1940s. Book early to avoid disappointment!

ART IN ACTION
A coach trip to Waterperry House, Oxfordshire on Sunday 22 July. Be inspired by 400+ art and craft exhibitors - demonstrations, classes, lectures and performances - painting, sculpture and ceramics, woodwork, textiles, metalwork and jewellery - and beautiful gardens. A great day out with lots to see and do - and buy! £30 for members, £31.50 for non members with pick up throughout the county. Closing date : Friday 29 June.

RECIPE OF THE MONTH

FLAPJACKS
100grms margarine
100grms Demerara sugar
4 tbsp golden syrup
350grms rolled oats
Pre heat the oven to160C or gas Mark4.

Put margarine, sugar and syrup into large pan and heat until margarine has melted, stirring with a wooden spoon to avoid ingredients burning. Remove from heat and add oats to the melted mixture.
Pour mixture in to greased tin and place in middle of preheated oven. Bake for approximately 15 minutes or until golden brown. Leave to cool slightly. Cut into slices and remove from tin.
